You can start a discussion on the homepage just below the photos of the members however,
if your topic or subject fits in to any of the groups of the same topic, it would be better to start your discussion in the group.

If you want to draw attention to what your are saying then a discussion would be the best way.

Otherwise if you just use the comment section, it will show up in the "Latest Activity" on the homepage but only as a comment whereas if you write a discussion, the title of that discussion will show on the homepage.
