You also had the Texas Playboys along with the Sons of the Pioneers. And if you listen to someone like Willie Nelson you can hear that influence.

Influences are sometimes hiddeen from view. Chet Atkins played guitar for a radio big band as a kid....How much of that bled into Country music?

A lot of musicians to this day would say the Eric Clapton album Layla was an influence and the band included mostly the Tulsa gang that all were in some small way influenced by the western swing groups.

The circle keeps turning.

I grew up with country music in the house all the time. Anything else would send you to hell ( bus came at 2:00 every afternoon ). I'm still mystified by the word Western. I know a handful of Western songs and even then there were a small handful of Western Groups, Like Sons of the Pioneers. Why is the word Western still associated with Country. I like western songs but there influence seems so limited today.
side note: Rock and Roll ....I know many forms of Rock but no forms of Roll that are not edible...just thinking too much.... hmmm Roll over Beethoven!!
