judy, some of the other groups that played that circuit were the vagrants (Mountain), Vanilla Fudge (Cactus), Joan Jett, George Thoroghgood, Roy Buchanan, Bon Jovi ......
What brought about the question is that back in those days I was LOUD. I was using 3 Marshall stacks. But I also had a Jazz gig there where I used my Vox bently and gretsch tennessee. Today I have gravitated towards a more traditional Country sound with blues/folk/jazz thrown in. Yet I still have at the core that old American Bandstand tradition of "It has a good beat and is easy to dance to" mentality that was at the bedrock of the Jersey shore sound. I was curious to know if Bob found himself going back to I believe the same roots.

Once again we can see the difficulty with genre terminology - something I've always been suspicious of. Usually it's the marketers of music, not the musicians, who create genres. Gotta figure where to file stuff on the record store/department shore shelves. Some progressive, imaginative musicians create music that's hard to categorize. This happened a lot in the 60's & 70's which led us to new genres and hyphenated genres: psychedelic, progressive, art rock, folk-rock, country-rock, jazz fusion, acid-rock, pub rock, club rock, Whew! Now we have: hard-rock, soft-rock, classic-rock, new-country, alternative country, Americana, smooth jazz, acid-jazz (!), alternative rock, new-wave, new age, heavy metal, death metal, goth-rock, hip-hop, rap (both east & west coast schools), progressive bluegrass (sometimes called "new grass"), blues rock, jam band, and however many MORE angels can dance on the head of a pin. Yikes!

SO - in the spirit of psychedelicness and progressiveness, ANY AND ALL GENRES CAN BE DISCUSSED HERE!! WHOO HOO!!

BUT - the industry needs to settle down. BACK OFF! Let the musicians play. Ultimately there are only 2 kinds of music - both individualized and subjective. Good music and bad music - stuff that you like and stuff that you don't.

I have a guitar student coming shortly so I'll have to get back to this later. Sue, Judy - stand by!
Peace.

Sue,Eddie Rabbit had a stellar reputation here in Nashville and I was
so fortunate to get to know him before he passed. Left a huge bulk
of his estate to Vanderbilts Children's hospital, so the work they did
with his son.
Have some of his original tracks never released.

would love to see bruce in concert again. four seasons was my brothers era but he still says they could really sing.
but what has this to do with Acid rock I think that is the term used
for Psychedelic. you and bob can both correct me if I am wrong

Here is a subject for you Bob. Both of us are originally from NJ. And from the Four Seasons to Eddie Rabbit to Bruce Springsteen all had that "Jersey Sound" (catchy danceable beats - and less pronunced guitar). So has that sound 'Progressed'?

Don't worry, Pixie. I won't abandon this group. It's really an interesting topic - considering the main focus of this network is music and prog. & psych. ideas have had such a profound influence. Right now I am a bit distracted by real-life issues.

Huge thunderstorm raging right now over Orlando. I'd better shut down this computer for a little while - avoid the dreaded ZAP!

Stormcrow, I told you it wasn't going to be easy to get any activity in these groups. I don't think we have enough active members. Most just join and never come back.

Don't give up. You at least have some that are interested.

Even before Billy Grahman there was John Schere and the Capitol theatre and (I Think) WBAL out of FD university in Hackensak. (BTW: There was a back entrance to the Capitol from the pool hall above it - LOL)

Nostalgia in its place is a good thing. And the fact that the music biz is in such a Alfred E Neuman place actually makes it fun. I have worked with some of those old timers and love to let us say borrow from them and set what I learned from them into what I do today.
The only thing I reget about todays music is the lack of dynamics. And I basically just ignore that in the music I do. But then as I tell my BF, If I ever had a hit record now the first thing I'd do is demand a recount.....'cause someone screwed up. LOL
