Playing What We Feel, Feeling What We Play

In fall 2007 I was visiting friends in Phoenix and 2 of us were fooling around with a few songs. Our hostess put part of it on youtube and, to my amazement, I've recently discovered that our "version" (if it even qualifies for that distinction) of "We've Only Just Begun" has been viewed over 400 times!

To my continued amazement, I've also discovered that one of our band's records from 1967 is also on youtube.

Gary, for some reason those links aren't loading for me. Maybe it's just a busy time but you can try to put the video directly on this page by going to the video on youtube and on the right hand side you'll see "embed code". Copy that and then just paste it here instead of the links. That should speed it up.

Hmm - all 3 work for me from this site. Maybe I'll try that other process later.

Gary, It must have been traffic time on Youtube because I just tried again and was able to reach all three.

I don't know if maybe I was in the zone but I don't remember you singing at my party. I wish you would have. I really like your voice on the kitchen clips.

I also liked the version of "Over the Rainbow". That and the "Runaround Girl" most definitely have the 60's sound. Nice job.

I didn't sing anything except a couple of harmony parts on a couple of your songs. I only did what I was asked to do, and no one asked me about singing anything. :- )

Thanks very much for your kind comments. The Portraits' version of "Over the Rainbow" did get a little action in early '68 - it charted in a few areas and got us a beer commercial in NYC.

Gary, Well, since it was a last minute thing I didn't even think to ask you to sing. I guess I just figured that when I wasn't singing, you two would do whatever songs felt comfortable. I guess I shouldn't assume but I did assume that if you wanted to sing, you would.

If we work together again, please know that I would love to hear you sing. Please don't wait for me to ask.

I wish I couldve been there. I hope I can go to the next one if Pixe has one. I hope to hear you sing.

I play every Tuesday afternoon in Monterey Park, and I sometimes fill-in at the Granada Pavilion in Granada Hills. I do whatever other gigs come up, but they are often private parties. This Sunday afternoon (5/24) I will actually be busking (playing on the street) in LA near Larchmont & Melrose.
